Sólstafir was in Seattle this month as part of the Iceland Naturally sponsored, Taste of Iceland event. The group performed at the Reykjavík Calling musical showcase held at KEXP.
This Season of Mist artist is one that’s been around for a long time with many great releases in their 20+ years history of making music. I wasn’t at all surprised to see the large fan turn out in Seattle for this show. This wasn’t their first time in the Emerald City, so fans knew very well what they were going to enjoy on this evening.
Before the evening started off one of the sponsors of the event, Iceland Airlines, gave away a full paid luxury trip to one lucky fan in the audience as a wrap up to their couple week long social media contest that lead up to this grand prize. There surely more than a few disappointed fans who had hoped they would win, but there really were no losers in the building with a free concert from Kælan Mikla and Sólstafir.
KEXP‘s location offered a decent size room for a live gig but still intimate enough for fans to feel close to the band. Fans had a great time and cheered as songs they’d hoped for were performed through the show. At one point in the show, vocalist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason reached out and held the hand of a fan in the audience for a moment adding to the intimate feel of the show, but also reminding the fans that the band truly appreciated them coming out for the show. The band wrapped the show up with a group bow and hands to mouth then to air blown kisses thanking the fans.
After their set the paused with fans for photos and autographs then called it an evening.
