January 20th, country singer Granger Smith headlined at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey in a show presented by Thunder 106. His four piece band did an incredible job bringing the party. Granger Smith was not alone on this amazing lineup. On this tour he brought along David Hangley and Smithfield to open the show.

Kicking off the show was country artist, David Hangley, from New Jersey. His song titled “Think About You” is very beautiful with a unique sound. He is very passionate about his music because you can hear it in his voice. He released his first album ‘American Made’ in 2013 and just released his first single in 2017. His plans for 2018 is to work on an EP project with new music. I am looking forward to hearing more music from this talented country singer!

The second opener for the night was the country duo Smithfield, also from Nashville, Tennessee. They have been playing shows and making music for the past 6 years. During the show the band announced how excited they were to finally be featured on a country radio show. Fans cheered when they heard their favorite cover songs by the Goo Goo Dolls and Faith Hill. They ended their set with the song “Hey Whiskey”, their hit single.

Fans waited eagerly for Granger Smith to hit the stage as the background music inside the venue was blaring over the speakers. This was my first time seeing Granger Smith perform live in concert so I was really excited for the show. As soon as the music stopped and the lights went dim, the crowd went wild. His setlist included songs such as “Stutter” and “Happens Like That” from his new album ‘When the Good Guys Win’.

During his show, Granger Smith walked across the platform on the center stage and gave fans in the audience a high five. He also made his way around the side of the stage to shake hands with the fans before finishing his set. Granger Smith tried to connect with the fans at the show which I think is truly amazing. My favorite song on this new album is “4 Wheel Drive”. This is definitely an album that I will listen to over and over again!

The highlight of the night was when fans in the front row were holding the American Flag during the song “Bury Me in Blue Jeans”. Everyone in the crowd including the fellow band members clapped while Granger Smith played a duet toward the end of the song. This song appears on the album ‘Dirt Road Driveway’. This isn’t just an ordinary country band because their sound includes banjo’s, mandolins and accordions which gives their music a heavenly touch. During the show Granger Smith stood on the barricade inside the photo pit and sang to the crowd. He was moving all over the stage which kept everyone’s attention. This is definitely a memorable show that I will never forget.

Toward the end of the show, Smith’s alter-ego Earl Dibbles Jr. made an appearance while he walked on stage in blue overalls and a white t-shirt. He even threw his white t-shirt and baseball cap into the crowd to give to a random fan. Earl hyped up the crowd when he sprayed the audience with cans of Monster energy drinks. This was a show that definitely kept everyone dancing on top of their toes! I enjoyed all of the songs off his new album ‘When the Good Guys Win’. You will not regret buying this album!

In 2018, Granger Smith will continue to tour all over the USA. Be sure to check out one if his upcoming shows on tour!
