Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood came to Tacoma, WA to perform 5 sold out shows at the Tacoma Dome.  Along with them they had opening support from rising country artists Mitch Rossell and Karyn Rochelle.

It had been 20 years since Garth Brooks last graced our area with his amazing country music in a live show and it was not lost on all of the local fans who quickly snapped up tickets for one or more of his shows along with fellow country artist and wife, Trisha Yearwood quickly selling out all 5 dates in a matter of a couple of hours.

As the first night arrived for the 5 shows, fans were excited to learn that Garth and Trisha had a great surprise for them! They were recording a live album and video while here in Tacoma.  Talk about making an already special evening even more memorable for all those in attendance.  The recording and filming was done during all five shows as well, so everyone who attended over this weekend got to take part in it, and fans young and old were thrilled.

Fans were here for Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, two country music legends!  I’ve never seen this venue so busy for a musical performance in all my years living here, which I’ve been told it’s been since dinosaurs inhabited the planet!  Even getting to the venue was almost a next to impossible for many fans who found themselves stuck in dead stop traffic on every street leading to the Tacoma Dome and near by parking lots.  Some fans in their Uber’s and Lyft’s were so concerned about being late they jumped out blocks from the venue to hoof it on foot to make it in time for the start of the show.  Thankfully, there were two amazing openers for the large majority of fans who were late getting into the venue!

First up for the night was rising country star Mitch Rossell who performed a short set for the fans.  His music was really good and he was very entertaining and humble at the same time.  Fans enjoyed his set. Then it was Karyn Rochelle‘s turn to wow the audience and that she did.  This young lady has great stage presence with a genuine friendly feel that pulled the audience right into her set.  She wow’d and delighted fans with her catchy song “Red High Heels” which let her show a little sass up on that giant stage!  Both of these artists have been working with Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood for sometime and it’s awesome how they gave them both a platform to be heard as solo artists! What a way to warm up the country music fans for what was to come next.

The lights in the venue dimmed as the giant led screen on the stage starting scrolling ticket sales statistics from Garth Brooks 2015 tour, then a giant flash and a band and out stepped Garth Brooks.  From the moment he hit the stage fans were up on their feet singing and cheering.  For many, this was the first time they’d ever had the change to see him perform live before. Some he joked, were barely old enough to know his music.  One thing was for sure, it was a night of unity among all the fans and they enjoyed the evening.

For these shows, it was about the classic hits, not the new music, but the ones that made both Garth and Trisha household names and the ones that have secured them in their legendary country status.  Of course there was 1 new song that Garth wanted to perform and also had the fans join in singing the lyrics on.  After all, he was recording his live show, so new music had to appear at some point.  One thing was for certain, fans along with Garth Brooks were simply blown away by each other.  At times throughout the Friday evening show, Garth stopped in complete surprise and awe at the reception and participation from the fans.  I don’t think Garth truly knew what to expect from our relatively northern state.  To some in the south we may be some sort of Westernized Yankees, but we are also Seattle/Tacoma… home of the Seahawks… and the 12’s (Seahawks fans) and some of the loudest fans in the world. So I think we may have just caught him off guard on this first night of shows.

The show was split up with Garth Brooks coming out first and performing a number of songs,  “Baby, Let’s Lay Down and Dance”, “Rodeo”, “Two of a Kind, Working on a Full House”, “Papa Loved Mama”, “Ain’t Going Down (‘Til the Sun Comes Up), “Unanswered Prayers”, “That Summer” and “The Thunder Rolls” to name a few, then about halfway through the show Trisha Yearwood appeared rising up on a platform that came up from stage right.  What a sight! The audience once again went nuts! They performed a duet of “In Another’s Eyes” together and then Garth exited the stage as Trisha performed a number of her hit songs, “XXX’s and OOO’s (An American Girl)”, “How Do I Live”, “Wrong Side of Memphis”, “Georgia Rain” and “She’s in Love With A Boy”, before Garth returned to the stage and she took her exit.

Garth Brooks went on to perform fan favorites “Shameless”, “Callin’ Baton Rouge”, “Friends in Low Places” and “The Dance” before mixing his set up with a few cover songs from other artists while also including “Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)” and “Standing Outside the Fire”.  This was an amazing show!  I think one of the most amazing things I witnessed at this show was during “Unanswered Prayers” when most everyone in the audience (even the fans behind the stage, turned their cellphone flashlights on and illuminated the room. I spun around to look at the entire audience and it was breathtaking!  I can’t even imagine how Garth Brooks felt from up on the stage looking out at the audience and seeing this!  I certainly hope they caught video to include with their live video. Wow, simply stunning!

If you’ve never had the chance to see Garth Brooks or Trisha Yearwood, you must make this show one to see if you ever get the chance.  They both sounded amazing live and the show was phenomenal!  One of the best live shows I’ve ever witnessed!

Thank you Garth Brooks and Trish Yearwood for such an amazing performance!

I took a number of fan seat photos with my point and shoot to capture some of this amazing evening, by all means not professional shots but wow does the feeling of the show come through.
