Nervcast from Toronto brings a very hard-edged in your face metal attack to their debut EP Locked and Loaded. When you listen to the first song “Chemical Solution” you are instantly reminded of very early Metallica. It has been a long time since I have heard a song like that. The guitar is very raunchy and the vocals fit in very well with the music. There is definitely a bit of a garage sound to this album which is certainly not a bad thing. I think it fits the music perfectly. Add some great guitar solos and riffs and you have an album that is here to kick some ass!

The first single and video for the album is “Fallen Angels“. It starts out with raw guitar riffs that have a bit of 70’s Sabbath feel. There is definitely a dark atmosphere to this album with some seriously intense lyrics. Everett Mason‘s vocals on this song are different then the first song. More dark and calculated with that 70’s doom metal sound. It is a real treat to listen to with some awesome guitar work by Kevin Dalari.

As we head into song three “Moonstruck” I am now remembered of some of the harder edge straight forward metal bands of the 80’s.  Here we are on song three and we have three very distinctively different songs, but they all work together.  We have more incredible guitar work here that is a joy to listen to.

Sadly with this being an EP we come to the final song “Locked And Loaded“. The EP continues to shine and finished strong with another song that is closer to the first song. It has a bit of an anthem feel, with the blistering guitar throughout. Everett continues with his powerful vocals ripping through this song.

There is no doubt they should have a record label signing them in the near future and hopefully a full length LP to follow. This album was a very pleasant surprise to me. I used to love this kind of music back in the day and to hear it still being done in modern times with the old sound was a great treat. I love the fact that it has such a raw sound and it is not overly polished. I can’t wait to hear more music from this wildly talented band.
