“While the video shows the band’s unique personality, it also displays their sarcastic-yet-serious lyrical tone, which is equally thought-provoking” – Already Heard

Charlatan can be defined by their willingness to embrace the odd and taboo by poking fun at reality through sarcasm, irony and humor to show taking things too seriously only limits people in expressing their ideas. Armed with their goofy antics, songs that meander playfully through the spectrum of genre, and the poetic/hard-hitting musings of frontman, Grey, they are determined to stand out amongst a sea of cliches. Whether it is with their goofy antics or their thought provoking music videos, Charlatan has managed to emphasize their unique brand of humor and respect for dialogue in every possible aspect.

MORE ON CHARLATAN:
Embracing their inclination for the odd and taboo, Charlatan is breaking ground with their remarkable ways. The Scrap Metal group formed in 2008 in Salina, Utah by lead vocalist Grey and guitarist Austin Heath. It was not until 2013, after guitarist Tyler Baker Craig was added, that the zany musicians decided to spread their high-spirited, hard hitting music. Charlatan pokes fun at reality through sarcasm, irony and humor to show taking things too seriously only limits people in expressing their ideas. Whether it is with their goofy antics or their thought provoking music videos, Charlatan has managed to emphasize their unique brand of humor and respect for dialogue in every possible aspect. Frontman Grey expands, “We like to think of each of our songs as the start of a conversation, usually conversations built on navigating very real and sensitive issues. The people we want to reach are those who aren’t afraid to express their opinions, whether they love us or hate us, and be part of that conversation.”

Kicking off 2017, Charlatan signed with North Carolina based label Revival Recordings, home of heavy-hitters Alesana, Famous Last Words, and The Funeral Portrait. In celebration of their signing, the group partnered with New Noise Magazine to unveil “Bone Dance” off their latest EP Nothing to Gain, which was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Stetson Whitworth of High Vibe Recordings in Salt Lake City, Utah. “This first single, ‘Bone Dance’ is a commentary on the desensitization of youth in today’s society, and was written alongside the storyboarding for the music video.” Fans can catch Charlatan on the road for the “Ten Frail Years of Vanity and Wax” tour alongside label mates Alesana and Versus!
With a new record on the way and plans to tour extensively in 2017, Charlatan has a message to share with the masses: “Read. Think for yourself. Ask questions. Listen. Take risks.”
